La Laguna with Kids

It’s funny how kids can surprise you. After days of beach-hopping, we thought La Laguna might bore them.

But between hidden playgrounds, the interactive science museum, La Laguna, with its charming historic streets, is a must-see.

Even if you’re just passing through to catch a flight from the northern airport. You should take the time to visit and explore the city.

Park and Play

We usually park for free on the street around La Vega Park. Parking in the city is complicated, so try it only if you have enough time.

La Vega Park is the perfect place for children to let off steam. The park has a playground, a climbing wall, a basketball court, and a gym. It even has a BMX track, which, unfortunately, is only for club members.

There is also a small pond that attracts lots of birds — perfect for observing nature. From here, it’s only a 1.5 km walk to the city center.

Colorful Streets and a Refreshing Stop

In the heart of La Laguna you will find lively streets with pastel-colored colonial buildings, charming balconies and historic wooden doors that seem to tell stories from the past.

The colorful streets invite you to stroll around, with hidden courtyards, boutiques and cozy cafés where you can enjoy a coffee or barraquito (a sweet Canarian coffee). The city’s beautiful cathedral is a great place to pause and contemplate the history.

As you stroll through the city, you will find small galleries, craft stores and local markets showcasing Canarian culture.

On the way back, we like to stop at the children’s playground in Constitución Park to give the kids extra fun. This park offers slides, swings and lots of shady spots.

A Unique Easter Experience

If your visit falls during the Easter period, you should definitely not miss one of the local processions. The most famous is the Silent Procession, which takes place on Good Friday at 10 pm.

This event is truly unique — there is complete silence except for the sound of footsteps and the breathing of the members of the brotherhood. The atmosphere is as mysterious as it is captivating.

Museum of Science and Space

Museo de La Ciencia y El Cosmos has an interesting, entertaining exhibition for children and adults. You can have fun and learn something at the same time. It’s also a great shelter from the hot sun or when it rains.

Coffee and Cake

When we visit La Laguna, we never forget to enjoy a good coffee at We The North. Although they offer many great cakes, we like to go a few steps further to Makika&Co. We just can’t get enough of their canelés in a cozy atmosphere.
