Garachico

Garachico is one of the most beautiful towns on the island. It’s the kind of place where old-world meets modern family fun.

It offers everything from parks to restaurants and, of course, ice cream parlors that are sure to win over the kids.

Brief summary to soak the history

Between May 5 and 14 in 1706, about 8 kilometers south of Garachico, a volcanic eruption reshaped history.

The lava flow wiped out Garachico’s old port, which was then Tenerife’s most vital trading hub, effectively bringing the town’s golden era to a dramatic close.

Back to our trip. Park your car in the free Parking lot, just right next to the center. If you are not lucky, continue to the second free parking on the other side at the fishing pier.

There is small playground, but unfortunately, there is no shade, so it’s better to play around before it’s too hot.

Where the Fun Begins

Start at the Plaza de la Libertad, where you will also find a small children’s playground.

Afterward you can go to the Puerta de Tierra – a park or rather a small botanical garden. It is said that it was once the gateway to the port.

Seaside Fun at the Fishing Pier

From there, we continued to the fishing pier, where we enjoyed a magnificent view of the sea while the children played at the playground.

Here you will also find a small beach – Playa de Garachico, where you can take a refreshing dip.

Treat Yourself

On the way back, we enjoyed an ice cream in one of the gelaterias or stop off at a small restaurant – Tasca El Muelle Viejo.

The Octopus was awesome – best we‘ve ever eaten. Also the starers are super tasty: we ate the garlic prawns and croquettes. We enjoyed every minute at this sweet cozy place.” – Hubert Fischer

On your way back along the ocean to the Parking lot, you can take a dip in the local Piscinas naturales or swimming pool.

We recommend Sabores or something small to eat.
