Nestled near the charming town of Icod de Los Vinos, we visited Playa de San Marco. It is one of the few black sand beaches where you can actually swim.
And let me tell you, this beach has a secret weapon that makes it a hit for families: a local restaurant with a large children’s corner directly overlooking the beach.
Trust us, if you’ve spent any time on Tenerife, you’ll know that finding a restaurant with a decent children’s corner is like striking gold.

Getting There
We parked the car along Avenida Maritima. From there, It’s a straightforward, short stroll down to the beach. Easy enough, even if you’re herding little ones.
Waves can sometimes be a bit strong, so keep an eye on the water conditions before diving in.
Family Perks: El Jardín Restaurant
I have said it before, but what really set Playa de San Marcos apart, especially for families, was the El Jardín restaurant.
After swimming, we found this restaurant and were surprised by a fantastic children’s corner equipped with a blackboard, toys and books. So we were able to spend a few minutes without kids.
It seems that this restaurant does not exist anymore, but in the same street there are some bars and I am sure you will find something great for you.
A Bonus Stop: Icod de Los Vinos
While you’re in the area, take the opportunity to explore Icod de Los Vinos. The town has a lovely playground right in the square that’s perfect for the kids to burn off some extra energy.
And if your little kids are into nature, visit the Mariposario—the butterfly house. It’s a delightful spot with butterflies and other animals that will fascinate both kids and adults alike.
Everything you need to know for a perfect day trip will be found in the article: Icod de los Vinos with Kids.
Playa de San Marcos might be a bit off the beaten path, but it’s well worth the visit. If you’re traveling with kids, then it is a must.
